Ik ben nu 21, morgen zelfs officieel 21,5 (dat houd ik bij ja!), ik heb mijn bachelor Taal & Communicatie, een onder van de opleiding van Nederlandse Taal &Cultuur for cyring out loud, dit jaar behaald en toch heb ik het weten te presteren dat ik misschien twee, hooguit drie echt goede boeken gelezen heb dit jaar, en dat was ook nog eens Engelse literatuur.
Ik ben een schande voor de Nederlandse Literatuur en dat moet maar eens over zijn, zo dacht ik. Onlangs overleed Nederlands’ beste(?) schrijver, Harry Mulisch en ik vond dat een mooie aanleiding om één van zijn boeken er bij te pakken. Op de middelbareschool had ik Siegfried gelezen en daar was ik écht van onder de indruk. Zo onder de indruk dat ik ondanks een heftige migraineaanval waarin ik uiteindelijk tijdelijk totaal blind was (echt waar, geen leuke ervaring) gewoon bleef doorlezen (totdat ik echt niks meer kon zien natuurlijk!)
Ik ging voor De Aanslag, want die stond toevallig bij mijn zusje in haar boekenkast en het was misschien ook wel eens slim om niet meteen een boek te kopen, wat ik normaal dus altijd doe waardoor 1. mijn boekenkast bijna net zo op instorten staat als mijn kledingrek en 2. mijn bankrekening ook weleens lijdt.
En ik was, net als door Siegfried, bevangen. Wat een prachtig boek, wat een goed verhaal. Ik had niet eens de achterflap gelezen en wist dus ook totaal niet waar het over zou gaan en dat kan ik iedereen aanraden, want dat maakt het nog spannender, hoewel je eigenlijk wel weet wat er gebeurd is. Mulisch schrijft zo goed en totaal niet saai, wat ik eigenlijk wel een beetje verwacht had, omdat ik dat vaak bij ‘hoogdravende literatuur’ wel het geval vind. Iedere zin is werkelijk een genot om te lezen en ik heb het boek dan ook in twee middagen op de bank, met regendruppels op de ramen, een kussen in mijn rug en een mok met warme thee in mijn handen, uitgelezen.
De Aanslag, moet je lezen, zou verplichte literatuur op de middelbareschool moeten worden. Binnenkort toch maar eens ‘De Ontdekking van de Hemel’ aanschaffen en als ik dat aan kan, kan ik misschien nog wel een stapje verder gaan en Tolstoj lezen? Ik ben eigenlijk best benieuwd naar Anna Karenina!
