Na regen komt zonneschijn zeggen ze toch? Nou dat heeft even op zich laten wachten. Vannacht zijn er een paar badkuipen boven ons hoofd geleegd en vanmorgen was het kkkkoud! Zo koud dat ik om tien uur de auto in stapte met een lange broek en een jasje over m’n shirtje. Het was uitstapjesweer.
Kijk en als het uitstapjesweer is, dan moet je in het toeristisch hoogseizoen eigenlijk juist geen uitstapjes maken. Waarom niet? Omdat ie-der-een dan z’n honk verlaat en de wijde wereld in trekt. Het plan was Siena, maar na zo’n 55 minuten die voelden als 5 dagen met onze veel te grote auto door de veel te smalle heuvelachtige steegjes te hebben gezocht naar een parkeerplek moesten we ons toch echt gewonnen geven. Die parkeerplek zou niet meer gevonden worden.
Dus reden we verder, naar San Gimignano. Dit stadje wordt ook wel het Middeleeuwse Manhatten genoemd vanwege de hoge torens die van een afstandje een mooie skyline creëren. Een paar eeuwen geleden telde San Gimignano nog 72 torens, inmiddels zijn daar nog maar 14 over. Gelukkig staan ze tegenwoordig op de lijst van beschermd werelderfgoed. Ik zag zojuist in zo’n informatieboekje over Toscane dat je de stad beter voor half elf ’s ochtends of na vier uur ’s middags kunt bezoeken omdat het in het hoogseizoen onprettig druk kan worden. Goed, had ik dat nu maar vanmorgen al gelezen, want het was inderdaad verschrikkelijk druk toen wij om half twaalf aan kwamen rijden.
Neem niet weg dat het prachtig was. De gelato is ook goed gekeurd, maar halleluja probeer er vooral ’s middags niet te lunchen. Overal zat het vol en toen we ergens een terras gevonden hadden werden we niet geholpen. Uiteindelijk kreeg ik risotto die niet naar risotto smaakte en de rest had pizza die meer weg had van een baksteen met tomatensaus dan van de pizza zoals wij hem kennen.
He bah, ben ik weer lekker aan het klagen terwijl ik juist een hele fijne dag gehad heb. Ondanks de ‘kou’ die ’s middags gelukkig plaats maakte voor de zon, was het gewoon prima vertoeven. Morgen wordt het waarschijnlijk een dagje Florence, hoewel het OV staakt.. Maar er schijnt een shuttlebus vanaf de camping te rijden… Ah we’ll see and have fun!

Ik was 1,5 week geleden nog in Siena! Wat jammer dat je er geen parkeerplaats vond. Ben je ook bij die grote, ondergrondse parking gaan kijken? Mijn oriëntatievermogen is nihil, dus geen idee waar die precies ligt, vlak buiten het centrum alleszins. Ook ideaal: na vijf minuutjes wandelen, kom je bij een soort van hal met allemaal roltrappen, helemaal tot aan de duomo! ’t Is maar een tipje moesten jullie opnieuw naar Siena willen afzakken :-). Érgens ligt er een parking van formaat.
Oh, ik heb zo’n 8 jaar geleden in San Gimignano het lekkerste ijs ooit gegeten!
